 CHAIRMANS REPORT 19 MAY 2008

Yare Hospice Care Opens New Shop

We are very excited to announce the opening on Friday 16 May of our new shop at 174 High Street, Gorleston, this follows quickly upon the success of our first shop at 3 Broad Row, Great Yarmouth, which opened in January.  I am delighted to say that Tony Wright MP, our Patron, will officially open the Gorleston shop between 11.30 and 11.45 on Friday 30 May please do come along on the day if you are able to do so.

Pauline Petts our Shops Manager has been working extremely hard to get the new shop ready and it is certainly a credit to her.  We still require stock for the shop most importantly Clothes, DVDs, Videos, CDs and bric-a-brac if you have any items for the shop and are unable to bring them in yourself please contact us and we will arrange collection.  Also we still need some more volunteers to man the shop in Gorleston and if you have some time to spare and would like to help out please get in touch.

We are working very hard to secure a site for the Hospice one possibility we are considering is on the Beacon Park it certainly would ideally be situated on the A12 corridor to be easily accessible to patients from Great Yarmouth and Waveney.  We plan to build a ten bed hospice with day care facilities and are having regular meetings with all stakeholders including: Great Yarmouth and Waveney PCT, the Borough Council, James Paget Hospital, Big C, MacMillan Cancer Care and Marie Curie to ensure that our plans best fit the needs of the population.

Fundraising is such an important part of our work and we would be very grateful if you are able to help us in any way by holding an event yourself or with your work colleagues or perhaps obtaining sponsorship to do something special or unusual.  We Trustees have just taken delivery of our Business Plan which we will use to apply for large grants.  Please help us to help our community.
